Carnage, a new piece in a world with no peace.

I painted this painting over the course of 1 year. Adding to it randomly. I was inspired by a great small market musician The White Buffalo. He is one of the most powerful musicians out there. In my opinion the grit of his attitude and the "soul grabbing" energy of his lyrics have done it for me for the last few years. The best thing is, he could kick the entire Billboard Top 40's "musicians" in the teeth, then drink a Budweiser and smile while writing a song about it. Not that I think he is violent or anything.

I encourage you to look at the painting, read the lyrics, look at the painting again, then click the link to hear the song while looking before your response.

When I created this painting it was based off this song:
Carnage (Right click and open in new window so you can view art and hear song at same time.)

Thanks Jake for your inspiration.

I wanted a feeling of disarray, confusion, fear and most importantly, the unknown.

These are the lyrics from the song:

The day that carnage came to town
We locked and bolted our doors down <- these lyrics are featured on the painting

We laid silent on the ground
Hoping we will not be found
As children moan as mother cries
I hide the fear from my eyes
We creep down the cellar door
Underneath the rotting floor

Oh, I can’t see the light
Is it day or has darkness come like men
my brothers fight
Oh’ when will this be done
Will we see, will we see the sun

We hold up stock down in the cave
Two weeks gone by no light of day
The rats go ahead and steal their share
For in the darkness we’re unaware
I try to keep the others strong
We won’t last down here very long
How many lives have our boys gave
Have we built our shallow grave

Oh, I can’t see the light
Is it day or has darkness come like men
my brothers fight
Oh’ when will this be done
Will we see, will we see the sun

Skin and bones we waste away
Two months gone by no light of day
Children rocking back and forth
They don’t play much anymore
The smell of death is in the air
Are chances are much less than fare
To leave may be our certain doom
To stay shelter becomes a tomb

Oh, I can’t see the light
Is it day or has darkness come like men
my brothers fight
Oh’ when will this be done
Will we see, will we see the sun

Very powerful stuff. Please let me know:
  1. What are your reactions to the painting after hearing the music.
  2. Does it tie in together?
  3. Did you like the media used (paint, wood etc)
  4. What situation did you envision the "Carnage" coming from?
  5. Any other thoughts.
