In need of a hand
I love double meanings. I love them in sentences, in the dictionary, and I especially love them in art. I have done a lot of water related paintings in my career and will do many more. This one you see here entitled "In need of a hand", was inspired by a surfer/songwriter named Jack Johnson. Perhaps you have heard of him? Well one of my favorite songs of his is called "drink the water". These lyrics that you will read below are about a surfer who gets held underwater.

He is in need of a hand. Where the double meaning comes in is that not only do we need a hand when we are in situations like that, but also more than anything, Water needs our hand, or helping hand that is. With the major water usage and pollution issues we face today we may find that our original friend Water, needs more help from us than we do from it.
As you read these lyrics try to rearrange them, it isn't hard, so that it is Water being held under by man and his pollutants.

"Drink The Water"
Drink the water drink it down
This time I know I'm bound
To spit it back up
I didn't want this
Salty substitute, just not going to do
I need some air, if I'm going to live through
This experience reminds me of a clock
That just won't tick
I want to wake up
>From this concussion
But my dream is just not done
I'm late again,
It's just one of those
Bad days look outside and
Be careful what you ride
You just might find
That you're out of time
To swim ashore
If I drift long enough
I'll be home
He's got delusions between his ears
Man it takes up too much space
And all that tension between his gears man
He'll never ever leave this place
He's got stones instead of bones
And everybody knows
That can make you real real slow
And if heaven was below
He'd know just where to go
Dive in the ocean
And he'd sink like a stone
And he'd say
It's time to swim ashore
If I drift long enough
I'll be home
Hold on if you can
You're gonna sink faster
Than you can imagine so hold
Hold on if you can
You're gonna sink faster
Than you can imagine so hold
It's just time to swim ashore
If I drift long enough
I'll be home

Nathan Gibbs, I love your paintings, you did a wonderful job in bringing out the bright colors in "The Betrayal of man" and "Andaman Islands". Keep up the beautiful work.

I really love Nathan's artwork. He's a wondeful painter and teacher. The fact that he does so much for our planet is most inspiring. I support you 100%. We all should take care of our planet as it takes care of us.
Today we start with a day, tomorrow we should begin with a month and so on. Perhaps soon we will have our Earth Day turn into Everyday.
Thank you for all work on this event!
