New Artwork Critique! Mad Man Comin...
My second mixed media on wood panel painting based off of The White Buffalo's music song entitled Bad Man. This interpretation of another hearty song was constructed with the same technique I used on the painting Carnage. This technique I have developed is called, "lapsed". Basically over the course of a year or more, I will put this song on in my studio. With it playing, I will use whatever color I have handy and attempt to paint that on according to the lyrical content of the song. All the while loosly controlling the content of the piece. I may listen to the song 1 time or as many as 20 times in one session. I may not come back to it for weeks or sometimes I work on it days in a row.
Here are the lyrics to the song copywrite of The White Buffalo. At least this is what I could find readily on the net from this site here Song Meanings
It’s a silent shriek without a sound
He’s coming’ soon to your small town
He’s searching for something he won’t find
He’s a mad, mad man with a mad, mad mind
Half a fifth of Jack Daniels
He wipes his nose and takes a pull
He ain’t young he ain’t old
He’s a troubled man with a morbid soul
Oh, the mad man cometh
He don’t answer to no one
He’s no ones papa he’s no ones son
He won’t sleep till’ they’re dead
He’s got a swazi on the top of his head
Down from the heavens from which he fell
A demon child sent straight from hell
Throws one more shot of bourbon back
He’s a mean motherfucker; he’s a man in black
Oh, the mad man cometh
Like the ravage of a holy flood
Three lay dead in a pool of blood
Above broken bodies madness stands
Blood on his beard and blood on his hands
Hides in the shadows of the still of the night
You won’t see him coming no, no
Done the dead and flees the scene
Out of the corner of your eye you see the mad man running
Oh, the mad man cometh
The pigs are on his heels
Guns are drawn he’s in their sights
They think they’ve got their leads
But he’s a friend of the night
They follow the trail of blood
Now they know they’ve got their mark
But the madman can’t be found
Disappears into the dark
It’s a silent shriek without a sound
Well he’s coming soon to your small town
He’s searching for something he won’t find
He’s a mad, mad man with a mad, mad mind
Like an animal out of his den
You better hide your money better hide your children
You can’t keep your fear at bay
Cause the madman roams these streets today
Oh, the madman cometh
Some people believe the song is "Bad Man" but from what I can understand Jake is saying Mad Man. Regardless in the piece I try to reflect this struggle of the mad man and his acceptance and order in the society around him and his havok he wreaks upon this town.... Jake makes you want to either fear this guy, dispose of this guy or be this guy. Which one I guess depends on who you are.

I suggest you right click and open in new window...it comes up in QuickTime. If you do not have QuickTime get it here.
Listen to it while checking out this piece. See if you can identify any of the parts of the song in the painting.
I added in the text "Find your betrayal point, but please, stop, time is setting". Almost as if the mad man's conscience is trying to give him one last warning. Enjoy...
Be patient the image is large it may take a few moments to load.

Hey Nathan, this is so cool. Music playing while viewing the painting that it's based on. Awesome. I cannot believe the depth in the painting.
